After Schulman mandated on Monday that Uber and Lyft reclassify their drivers, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi threatened to halt operations in its house state if its forced to give motorists the kinds of standard advantages lawfully needed of staff members such as overtime and unemployment insurance. The bill mandates that “transport network business” like Uber and Lyft stop misclassifying their workforce as independent professionals if their chauffeurs do not have any of the self-determination that such a difference entails and offer the very same benefits and protections entitled to employees.
