On Saturday, members of the Football Parents at Ohio State sent a letter to Big 10 commissioner Kevin Warren asking him to reassess the choice to cancel the 2020 Big Ten football season, along with other fall sports.
On Sunday, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields created a petition on the website MoveOn.org, asking for signatures because exact same effort. From the petition:
We believe that safety procedures have been established and can be kept to mitigate concerns of exposure to Covid 19. We believe that we need to have the right to make decisions about what is best for our health and our future.
Since 11:40 a.m., the petition had actually already gotten over 5,000 signatures– by 12:40 p.m., the petition was already over 35,000 signatures– and has been retweeted by numerous Ohio State gamers, staffers, moms and dads and coaches.
We, the football gamers of the Big Ten, together with the fans and supporters of college football, request that the Big Ten Conference instantly reinstate the 2020 football season. Enable Big Ten players/teams to make their own choice regarding whether they wish to play or decide out this fall season. Allow Big Ten players/teams who select to decide out of playing a fall season to do so without penality (sic) or repercussion. Why is this essential?
