San Francisco-based power provider PG&E Corp said on Friday it has started turning power blackouts at the instructions of Californias grid operator, impacting about 200,000 to 250,000 clients at a time, offered the pressure on the power grid throughout the statewide heatwave. The company stated in a statement it is not calling a public safety power shut-off, which is performed throughout particular high fire hazard conditions. Last year, PG&Es power shut-offs hit hundreds of thousands of homes and offices in northern California and were condemned by clients as well as authorities for being too widespread, with insufficient communication.
